Belize

After crossing the border from Mexico in September 2008 we were in another world. The landscape did not change as much, as the people did. A new mix of cultures, English as the official language and a much worse infrastructure than before let you know, that you are in another country. It is also more expensive - and every body wants to get his share of your money...

The route: Corozal - Shipstern Nature Reserve - Orange Walk - Tropical Education Center - San Ignacio - Spanish Lookout- Hopkins - Placencia - Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary - Belmopan - Community Baboon Sanctuary

"Central America"

This sounds like danger, nature, beauty and...? For us it was a very interesting experience, including all that. Although we had no problems (despite the uncounted hours at the borders), we rushed a little bit through. Looking back we should have taken more time, especially for Guatemala. It was a really great experience, and we would do again!

Costa Rica

Still in Central America we next came through Costa Rica. Totally different than the other countries because of its developements. The tourist industry, IT-industry and many others made it rich. The bad side is, that you have to pay for everything, even if you want to make a walk into the jungle. The main theme were animals - there are quite a lot of them!

Panama

When you think of this country, there will certainly the Panama Canal be the first thing to come into your mind. Of course it was the main theme, but the landscape and National Parks are also places that impressed us. Nearly a month we spent here, also because we had to organize our shipping to Columbia.

The route: David - Bouquete - NP Vulcan Baru - Gualaca - Lago Fortuna - La Mesa - Ocu - Azuero Peninsula - NP El Coibe - El Valle - NP Altos de Campana - Panama City - Miraflores - Pedro Miguel - Gamboa - NP Soberania - Portobelo - Gatun Locks - NP San Lorenzo - Balboa Amador - Colon - Panama City
