The World Heritage Sites visited
in Brasil 2010

Site No. 355
Iguaçu National Park
Brasilian side

When you are in the Iguazu area you have the choice to visit one of the world´s most impressive waterfalls on two sides: the Brasilian and the Argentinian part.

Pathways - the best possibility to gain an impression of the subtropical rainforest - are less in Brasil than in Argentina. Therefore it is more the overall-view of the falls, facing the nearly 3 kilometres long edge that will lead you into this part.

To see wildlife it might be a better idea to visit the nearby "Parque das aves" (Bird-Park), as encounters of animals are pretty rare on the crowded paths in the park itself.

Site No. 999
Pantanal Conservation Area

The official World Heritage Site is only a part (1,3% !) in the greater Pantanal region and based in a quiet part of the area. We think it is not really representative for the rest of the Pantanal, where pretty much nature was destroyed by huge estancias, turning it into farmland.

Besides farming a big player is the "Eco-Tourist", who comes to visit different lodges, where he can observe wildlife. In these little parts animals are fed by humans to present the abundant wildlife of this eco-system.

In reality you can watch a lot of animals in the greater Pantanal - for us it was more like an open zoo. Still it is wonderful to see the Jaribu-stork, Caimans, Capivaras or hyacinth macaws, the world's largest parrots.
