Is this an official UNESCO Website? This website and the tour itself is a private initiative, and has no connection whatsoever with UNESCO or the World Heritage Committee. |
How can I find sites on the World Heritage List?As the World Heritage Center keeps track of all the sites, you can find the best possibility to locate a site by country, by region and by category on the WHC Website They also offer downloadable lists as XLS or a kml file for the use in Google Earth! |
What defines a World Heritage Site?To become a listed site on the World Heritage List, a nomination has to be accepted by the World Heritage Committee and the country, where the site is situated, has to sign the World Heritage Convention. An up to date list can be found directly at the WHC Website. The Committee defined several different values for definition: A cultural monument could be a masterpiece of creative genius; have exerted great architectural influence; be associated with ideas or beliefs of universal significance; or it may be an outstanding example of a traditional way of life that represents a certain culture. A natural property may exemplify major stages of the earth's history; represent ongoing ecological and biological processes; contain the natural habitats of endangered animals; or it may be a setting of exceptional beauty. When a property on the World Heritage List is seriously threatened, it may be inscribed on the List of World Heritage in Danger, which entitles it to special attention and international assistance. |
What can I do to assist? As an individual, you can help in many ways. Just by developing an awareness of the importance of our common World Heritage, each of us becomes an active participant. And by teaching our children that our heritage will become a perishable comodity if ignored, we will help future generations learn how to care for their heritage. You can also participate in one of the many volunteer projects at World Heritage sites around the world. Contact Info Alert the WHC! A part of the job of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre is to co-ordinate the mobilization of international support for emergency action when a World Heritage site is threatened. Don't hesitate to contact us if you become aware of any particular danger to a World Heritage site. Site managers cannot be everywhere at once, and your help is needed. |

Where did you built your car?Our Landrover Defender 110 was built by a company in Germany, which wanted to make this Dormobile a standard option to buy. Unfortunately the business changed to a higher request in Pick-Up Hardtops, resulting in a stop for the Landrover Dormobile. So this car is unique and will not be build anymore. We found it through the Internet and bought it used, with a tacho-reading of 90.000 km. Now we are around 330.000 kilometers |
What kind of camera do you use?We do not want to mention the manufacturer, but it is one of the cheapest Digital SLR´s with a standard objective and a 3rd party´s 300mm zoom. 90% of the pictures are not digitally remastered or altered. |
Travel costs? An interesting question. First, we calculated much more, but pretty soon we figured out, that travelling gets cheaper, the more time you invest. What other people spend in a two weeks vacation is enough to keep us travelling for a year. Especially not using campings, restaurants and other amusement keeps the costs incredible low. To give you an idea, how we spent our money during the first three years, this graphic will explain more: |
