Argentina 2009 - 2013 |
Back to all the routes |
Arriving in Argentina was a very good feeling, no longer we were the rich Gringos - people behaved normally, when they met us. Entering from the North we fell into the first World Heritage Site with beautiful sandstone formations. Then we passed by another - a Jesuitic Mission, and finally ended up in Buenos Aires. There we picked up our family and went to Valdez, where we fell in love with the whales. The time, when we travelled together will be unforgettable forever... Argentina - Part IISo we started once again in Buenos Aires and went South to see some more whales on Valdez. The coast kept us busy further South also, with a lot of nice wildlife encounters. As we heard about the snow in Tierra del Fuego, we decided to cut through to the West. The incredible Glacier Perito Moreno and the granite Fitz Roy were a tremendous highlight after all the plains before. The route: Buenos Aires- La Plata - Las Flores - Monte Hermoso - Bahia Blanca - Viedma - Puerto Madryn - Peninsula Valdez - Trelew - Gaiman - Punta Tombo - Bahia Bustamente - Commodoro Rivadavia - Puerto Deseado - Bosques Petrificados - Puerto San Julian - Monte Leon - El Calafate - Perito Moreno - El Chalten - Fitz Roy - El Calafate - Rio Turbio Open

Tierra del FuegoWe did not want to seperate this incredible beautiful island into two countries, although Argentina and Chile are sharing it. Both nations own wonderful landscapes and unforgetable impressions. It is unique. It is the southern end of the world, as there is no other possibility for an ordinary traveller to go further south by car. It is also the point of return for us. Several books about the land of fire accompanied us and made history vital. The

Argentina - Part IIIIf you want to have a look at "Ruta Cuarenta" or Route 40, the famous street through Argentina, you can find the southern part here. The National Parks in the southern Andes and the "cavern of the hands" are a main theme also. As we left for a short while Argentina, making a part of Chile, there are two argentine parts in the pictures. The route:

Argentina - Part IVYou can not follow the Carretera Austral in Chile further north than Chaiten, if you want to travel on ground, you will come to Argentina again. This is, where this part started, going North inArgentina, until you can drive back into Chile again. Around Bariloche you are in the Suisse Alps, with all of it advantages and disadvantages. A few weeks with good weather made a lot of nice hikes. The side trip to Piedra Parada was a very colourful one. The route: Open all the pictures in a new

Argentina - Part VComing back up on the Andean side of Argentina there are really beautiful areas to explore. Snow catched us there - what made some different landscape pictures possible. Then we crossed over to Buenos Aires to have some maintenance on our car done and met again friends in La Plata. At the end the journey goes North to cross into the Rio La Plata region, Entre Rios and finally Uruguay. The route: Open

Argentina - Part VIThis is a little tricky mixture, because we have put two parts together that have no connection. Travelling through Entre Rios we were in the wetlands of Ibera and afterwards visiting Jesuit reductions in Misiones. Then we left for Paraguay and came back to Argentina in Puerto Iguazu to see the falls. Lots of wildlife, nature and culture can be found in this set of pictures! The route: Open

Argentina - Part VIIComing from Bolivia, we had a look at parts of the country we missed at our last visit. The main themes are colourful mountains and sandstone formations. Incredible, what nature and Argentina have to offer! The Paso de San Francisco was the first crossing into Chile, the Paso Pircas Negras the second and more will follow in the next picture set. The

Argentina - Part VIIIIts incredible, how long we needed for this relatively small area, also unbelievable is the amount of pictures we took. Resulting in the largest picture set so far, we hope these are still entertaining. When you plan to visit the provinces of La Rioja, San Juan and Mendoza it might give you a good overview for your own journey. Andean crossings and sandstone formations in the area are endless! Argentina - Part IXWe had to leave Chile, because of all our available time was consumed. All border crossings were closed for winter, so we went to Paso de Jama and then to Salta. A remarkable landscape and driving along the "Train into the clouds" made it a nice experience, although only a short trip. The

Argentina - Part XThe whales were calling! After our trip south (partly on Ruta 40) we were searching for a garage to finally repair our gearbox, which still was bad after the work in Chile. Unlucky in Mendoza and San Rafael we ended in Zapala, where an incredible knowing man works: Diego Barbosa. When the work was done, we crossed Argentina for the Peninsula Valdez to see the whales again. This unique possibility in the world had to be taken. More than two weeks side by side with the Southern Right Wales are unforgettable. With Christmas coming closer, we crossed Argentina again to be together with Friends in Chile. The route: Paso

Argentina - Part XIIPampa, Pampa, Pampa. Travelling through the emptiness of this wonderful country is very special, when getting closer to the mountains, you nearly feel trapped after. Whale and elephant seals SpecialFor us it is one of the most unique spots in the world - the Peninsula Valdez. Walking on the coast to watch whales passing by a few meters away - incredible. That´s why we come back again and again. Next to Valdez is Punto Ninfas - where the southern elephant seals found their home. Enjoy the animals! |

Argentina - Part XVIIComing back from Chile we changed our style of travelling for the next weeks. Having a fixed date to be in Ushuaia we wanted to stay as long as possible on the peninsula Valdez. The results are some pictures of the way to Valdez, many of the peninsula and some more of the rush South. But the sunsets are unbelievable! The route: Open

Jineteadas/RodeosDuring the time in Argentina we developed a new passion: The Argentinian rodeo, or so called Jineteada is a very traditional gathering of the gauchos, where they show their capabilities. Similar to all the rodeos in Canada or the U.S. you can meet very warmhearted and down to earth people from rural areas. Have a look at our Specials-page, where all of them are listed: |

Travelling ImpressionsWe have changed our style of living from travelling to new places to enjoying an area. Making friends, building relations, getting an in-depth view of people and places. The ordinary route-style picture books thus evolved to area impressions that do not follow a special track. Nevertheless they show our experiences in the new travel style described above: |

Argentina, the next province further North in Patagonia: Chubut. Part 1 and Part 2 . Another summary of Chubut we made in 2014 - 2015: Let you be inspired here. A huge area, offering deserts, lakes, plains and mountains. And a lot of warmhearted people! |

Crossing Argentina we took some further impressions of the provinces La Pampa, Buenos Aires and Neuquen. After these we followed the suggestion of many Argentinian people to discover the Meseta of Somocura in the province of Chubut. Images of the province Rio Negro in 2014 can be found here. |
